Nick Dowers has a unique training philosophy that sets him apart in the horse industry. The Nevada cowboy grew up learning that a strong work ethic, patience, and perseverance were his greatest tools for success. Raised on his family’s Triple D Ranches, Nick loved every opportunity to ride horses. He valued a great partnership with a horse and understood the importance of a horse that could excel both on the ranch and in the arena.
After studying under well-respected horsemen and horsewomen, Dowers drew from each mentor to develop his own training philosophy. Combining natural horsemanship with performance horse training, he refined the skills and knowledge gained from mentors such as Bryan Neubert, Joe Wolter, Andrea Fappani, and Annie Reynolds. The result is a partnership with each horse that produces balanced, confident competitors. For Dowers, winning is not everything—the true measure of success is helping a horse reach its maximum potential.
One of Dowers’ highest achievements came in 2013, when he won the NRCHA Open Snaffle Bit Futurity Championship riding his family’s stallion, Time for the Diamond. This victory demonstrated that understanding the horse’s mind and building a solid foundation could create a champion in the show pen. At the same time, Dowers proved that a horse could remain versatile—used on the ranch for packing into hunting camp or branding calves—while still excelling in competition. Time for the Diamond has earned over $180,000 in NRCHA lifetime earnings and produced many successful offspring, both in and out of the show pen.
As a National Reined Cow Horse Association (NRCHA) Million Dollar Rider, his approach reflects performance with purpose — producing horses that are not only successful in the show pen but also invaluable on the ranch. Dowers’ program emphasizes longevity, using experience from both ranch and arena work to develop well-rounded, confident horses.
A two-time Road to the Horse World Champion (2016 & 2019) and two-time Jack Brainard Horsemanship Recipient, Dowers has long been a fan favorite. Audiences have eagerly awaited his return to the World Championship of Colt Starting since he last competed in 2019.
