Since 2003, Road to the Horse has stood as the premier colt starting competition, showcasing horsemanship at its highest level. From March 19–22, 2026, the World Championship of Colt Starting returns to the Alltech Arena at the Kentucky Horse Park for an event themed Legends in the Making, highlighting the courage, skill, and trust that define both horse and rider.
The 2026 Championship marks a historic return to fillies for the first time since 2005. The Official Championship Remuda, provided by Pitchfork Ranch, features an exceptional lineup of American Quarter Horse fillies bred for versatility, grit, and elite performance. Pedigrees include legendary sires METALLIC MASTERPIECE, NASTY CD, BET HESA CAT, GOODLUCK CATT, COWBOYS MISSN 214, and CAT AND CASH, tracing to icons such as HIGH BROW CAT, CD OLENA, PLAYGUN, and MISS N CASH. This remuda blends cutting, reined cow horse, ranch, and roping excellence, setting the stage for an unforgettable 2026 World Championship.
Road to the Horse 2026 World Championship Competitors:
• Nick Dowers (USA) – Two-time Road to the Horse World Champion (2016 & 2018) and NRCHA Million Dollar Rider, returning after last competing in 2019.
• Ryan Rose (USA) – Skilled competitor, clinician, and online educator, dedicated to teaching horsemanship and colt starting to a global audience.
• Elisa Wallace (USA) – An internationally recognized eventer and passionate advocate for Mustangs and Thoroughbreds.
The Wild Card Challenge features four talented horsemen and horsewomen: Jason Irwin (CAN), Sadie Fisher (USA), Tiffany McLaury (USA), and Rob Leach (AUST). The Wild Card Champion will join the Championship round, competing for the $135,000 purse alongside the three announced Championship Competitors.
The four-day event will also feature equine entertainment, educational clinics, live demonstrations, and vendors, all designed to celebrate the timeless partnership between horse and rider.
