The World Championship of Colt Starting

For the first time in the history of the event, two past Road to the Horse Champions will go head to head in a battle for the 2019 World Championship of Colt Starting title. Road to the Horse 2016 World Champion and National Reined Cow Horse Association Snaffle Bit Futurity Champion Nick Dowers will challenge international showjumping sensation and two-time Road to the Horse World Champion Vicki Wilson.

The Wild Card Competition

At Road to the Horse 2019, three gifted horsemen will showcase their skills in the Wild Card competition. They will each start an untouched 6666 Ranch colt, during three days of competition, in true Road to the Horse style. The winner is guaranteed a much-sought-after competitor position at Road to the Horse 2020. The Wild Card competitors will take center stage each morning, prior to the start of the main Road to the Horse 2019 competition. The 2019 Wild Cards are Ben Baldus, Wade Black, and Booger Brown.

The Road to the Horse Judges Panel combines the best equine experts across various disciplines, each judge lending their professional experience and personal expertise to carefully evaluate each competitor. The judging of Road to the Horse is based on specific colt starting criteria, while protecting the well-being of the horse. Judges watch and score every moment of interaction at Road to the Horse, it is not just the performance in the obstacle course that decides the next World Champion, but every step taken from beginning to end.
