Jason Irwin (CAN)

Jason Irwin is a horse trainer and clinician based in Ontario, Canada. Alongside his wife, Bronwyn, he operates Jason & Bronwyn Irwin Horsemanship, where they work with riders and horses of all levels. Jason is also a television host, author, and rancher.

Jason’s connection to horses began early. Growing up on his family’s farm, he started his first colt at just twelve years old. He soon progressed from training his family’s horses to taking in outside horses while still in high school. After graduating from college, he committed to the horse industry full time.

While Jason’s experience spans many areas of horsemanship, he has always remained dedicated to starting young horses. Colt starting is his passion, and he continuously works to refine his methods and deepen his understanding of what helps young horses learn with confidence.

Jason’s family—parents Bill and Brenda, and brother Adam—operate Northstar Livestock, known for producing exceptional blue roan Quarter Horses. It was there that Jason met Bronwyn when she came to the farm to purchase a horse. Their shared love for horses led to the creation of Jason & Bronwyn Irwin Horsemanship, blending their backgrounds to help riders develop better communication, partnership, and training skills with their horses. They began teaching clinics and soon became sought-after presenters at major horse expos across North America.

His horsemanship spans liberty work, foundational training, advanced maneuvers, and helping riders solve behavioral challenges. Jason teaches clinics, gives training demonstrations, and presents at major horse expos throughout North America and Canada.

Together with his wife, he has produced ten seasons of the television series The Horse Trainers. He has also appeared on Canada’s Got Talent with his horses and has trained trick horses for commercial, film, and television roles.

Jason shares his training philosophy widely through social media, clinics, and writing. He is the author of Starting Young Horses: Commonsense Skills and Sensible Steps to a Solid Training Foundation.

Jason strives to make horsemanship practical, understandable, and enjoyable. One of the principles he lives by is:
“When the foundation is good, it’s surprising how easy the advanced things are. When the foundation is weak, it’s surprising how hard the simple things become.”
