Horses have always been at the center of Tiffany McLaury’s life, shaping both her profession and her passion. Raised on several large ranches across Texas, she had the opportunity to ride a wide variety of horses and learn from some of the most respected ranch hands in the country.
Participating in daily ranch operations instilled in her the importance of developing a willing and trusting partnership with each horse. At just 12 years old, with the support of her mother, Tiffany started her first colt. Throughout high school, she continued halter breaking and starting young horses, building the foundation that would guide her future career.
Tiffany attended Sul Ross State University, where she earned a Bachelor of Arts in Political Science with a minor in Equine Science. Although she was accepted into law school following graduation, her dedication to horses ultimately shaped her professional path. She chose to devote her career to horsemanship, guided by a commitment to give every horse she encounters the best possible opportunity to succeed.
She credits her parents, Buster and Sheryl McLaury, along with mentor Ray Hunt, as influential figures in her development as a horsewoman. Tiffany views horsemanship as a lifelong pursuit of growth and refinement, continually seeking knowledge that enables her to better serve the horse.
Today, Tiffany resides in Paducah, Texas, where she starts and rides horses for the public. Over the years, she has had the opportunity to start colts alongside her parents for numerous respected ranches, including WH Green Ranch (Albany, Texas), Rocker b Ranch (Barnhart, Texas), Parker Ranch, W. T. Waggoner Estate, Bonita Canyon Ranch (Corona, New Mexico), and Center Ranch (Centerville, Texas). She is also a Certified Equine Sports Massage Therapist, an additional qualification that enhances her ability to support equine performance and well-being.
Tiffany’s work has earned national recognition. In 2017 and 2018, she was invited to start a colt at Legacy of Legends, an event honoring the teachings of Ray Hunt and Tom Dorrance. In July 2019, she was featured in Western Horseman’s Women of the West series alongside her mare, Lil Miss Wicked Pep. She served as a colt-starting presenter at Art of the Cowgirl in 2022 and was named the 2023 Masters of Horsemen Colt-Starting Challenge Champion. Tiffany has also been an Invitational Colt Starter for Martin Black and Dr. Steve Peters’ Evidence Based Horsemanship event in Maine for the past two years. In 2025, she was a clinician at Midwest Horse Fair.
In addition to colt starting, Tiffany competes in the show pen while remaining grounded in foundational horsemanship. Drawing from experience gained riding with Russell Dilday, she shows Lil Miss Wicked Pep and CR High On Love in multiple associations. She and “Wicked” have earned multiple ARHA World and Reserve World Championships. “Calf Rope” was the 2022 PRCHA 5 & Under Snaffle Champion and the 2023 PRCHA Limited Open Bridle Champion, qualifying for both the AQHA and NRCHA World Shows. Tiffany and both horses were finalists at the 2023 and 2024 RHAA National Finals, finishing in the Top 5 in two classes. Wicked was named AQHA Fan Favorite at the 2025 RHAA National Finals. Tiffany is also developing a 2-year-old, Wittle Wicked Wylde, who is in the early stages of her cow horse career.
Throughout every stage of her journey, Tiffany has remained devoted to the horse. Her life’s work is grounded in tradition, respect, and continual improvement. Whether starting colts on a Texas ranch or competing in the show pen, she carries forward the legacy of the horsemen and women who shaped her, striving to build trust, partnership, and understanding with every horse she touches.
“I am humbled and excited to have been selected as a Road to the Horse 2026 Wild Card competitor. Horses have taken me places I’ve only dreamed of going, and this competition is another of those opportunities they have brought me. What an honor it will be to do what I love on such a prestigious stage.” Tiffany McLaury
