Tik Maynard to Defend His Title at Road to the Horse 2025

Canadian eventer and renowned horseman Tik Maynard captured the hearts of fans this past March with an amazing display of horsemanship as he formed an undeniable partnership with Pitchfork Ranch gelding Capera Catt. The team went on to sweep all three rounds of the prestigious colt starting competition and secure the 2024 World Championship of Colt Starting title. For Road to the Horse 2025, Maynard will return as a Championship Competitor to defend his title at the Kentucky Horse Park in Lexington, Kentucky, March 27-30, 2025.

“We’re excited to welcome Tik back to Road to the Horse to defend his World Championship title in 2025,” stated Morris Equine Group President Tina Battock. “Road to the Horse rewards superior horsemanship, no matter the nationality, discipline or background of the competitor. Tik was a shining example of that in 2024. We can’t wait to see him back in the round pen for next year’s competition.”

Maynard not only looks forward to returning to the Kentucky Horse Park as a 2025 Championship Competitor, but he is also excited to return with the partner he won it all with, Capera Catt, after acquiring the gelding following the 2024 event. Maynard will update fans on the colt’s progress during his clinic at Road to the Horse 2025.

“I have followed Road to the Horse since 2012, and I always get drawn up in the suspense: Who will be invited? Who will win? What drama will unfold? However, most of all, I look forward to learning,” stated Road to the Horse 2024 World Champion Tik Maynard. “In preparation for Road to the Horse 2024, I learned more about horses in eight months than I think I did in the previous eight years. I am honored to be invited back to compete at Road to the Horse 2025. I can’t wait to keep learning, I can’t wait to see who else is invited, I can’t wait to meet the colts and I can’t wait to see everyone there.”

Maynard is no stranger to international competition as he competed full time in the sport of modern pentathlon. A Canadian National Team member and two-time National Championship winner, Maynard competed at multiple World Cups, World Championships, and at the 2007 Pan-Am Games in Rio. Maynard’s passion is three-day eventing, where he was listed for the Canadian National Three-Day Eventing Team. A trainer, clinician and author, Maynard is married to USA Three-Day Eventing Olympic Team member, Sinead Maynard.

Road to the Horse 2025 will feature an international lineup of three competitors, showcasing talented colt starters from around the world. These three Championship Competitors will be joined by the Wild Card Challenge Champion, allowing a total of four colt starters to compete for horsemanship’s most prestigious title, the World Championship of Colt Starting.
