Since 2003, Road to the Horse has stood as the premier colt starting competition in the equine industry. For over two decades, its success has been fueled by creativity, innovation and an unwavering respect for the art of horsemanship. That legacy continues March 19–22, 2026, as the World Championship of Colt Starting returns to the Alltech Arena at the iconic Kentucky Horse Park.
At its core, Road to the Horse is about transformation — it’s an emotional journey of growth, grit and greatness. The 2026 theme, Legends in the Making, shines the spotlight on the bond between horse and rider, as they build trust, bravey, and courage—one step at a time—laying the foundation for a legendary partnership.
From the first touch to the final ride, a true steed is not simply ridden — but forged. Where each step lays the foundation for greatness. Shaped not by force, but by trust. With every touch, courage is kindled, until fear fades and challenges awaken not flight, but fire.
Road to the Horse 2026 pays tribute to the creation of a courageous partner — brave in heart, strong in body, and unshaken in the face of the storm.
“Road to the Horse is where legends are made — not just in the horses, but in the horsemen and women who step into the round pen,” states Tina Battock, President of Morris Equine Group. “Fans get an opportunity to witness greatness and experience a transformational journey that inspires all. Road to the Horse never disappoints.”
Guided by the Legends in the Making theme, the event will feature a dynamic mix of equine entertainers, educational clinics, live demonstrations and vendors — all carefully selected to inspire, educate and celebrate the timeless partnership between horse and rider.
The Wild Card Challenge kicks off the event on Thursday, March 19, and wraps up on Friday, March 20. As in years past, the Wild Card Champion will immediately advance to a Championship Competitor position on Friday afternoon, joining the main event lineup and competing for a share of the $137,500 purse
The World Championship Competition will spotlight a talented lineup of three competitors, each demonstrating a diverse range of horsemanship styles across multiple disciplines. Joining them will be the Wild Card Challenge Champion, bringing the total to four colt starters competing for the most prestigious title in horsemanship — the World Championship of Colt Starting.
The first Championship Competitor, Ryan Rose (USA), was announced during the Road to the Horse 2025 event. Announcements of the remaining World Championship and Wild Card Challenge competitors will follow shortly.
