• Elite Committee Assembled to Select RTTH 2019 Wild Card Competitors

There’s a new Wild Card Competition coming to Road to the Horse 2019 and everyone’s talking about it. It’s a hot topic! So…the big question is… who will be the lucky competitors that get to step into the spotlight in the Road to the Horse round pen? The 2019 Wild Card Competition will showcase three gifted horsemen. Each one will start an untouched 6666 Ranch colt and the winner is guaranteed a coveted spot in Road to the Horse 2020 where they will compete for a $125,000 purse.

In order to select the very best competitors, Road to the Horse has assembled an elite group of equestrians that will make up the Horseman’s Selection Committee. These knowledgeable committee members, who are experts in their field, will research and review each Wild Card applicant. After carefully examining each applicant, the committee will make their selections, and those three competitors will get a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to showcase their colt-starting skills.

The Wild Card competitors will take center stage each day, prior to the start of the Road to the Horse 2019 competition. Fans will be able to watch every minute of colt-starting action from these talented first-time competitors, as they each bring their own unique style of horsemanship to Road to the Horse. Each Wild Card competitor will start one 6666 Ranch colt, in contrast to the main Road to the Horse 2019 competitors, who will be starting three colts each.

“This will be a great opportunity for some talented horsemen that may not be as well-known,” states Western Horseman Publisher Ernie King. “But you can rest-assured that their skills can match up with anyone who has ever competed at Road to the Horse.”

For the first time in the history of the event, two past Road to the Horse Champions will go head to head in a battle for the 2019 World Championship of Colt Starting title. Road to the Horse 2016 World Champion and National Reined Cow Horse Association Snaffle Bit Futurity Champion Nick Dowers will challenge international showjumping sensation and two-time Road to the Horse World Champion Vicki Wilson for the title at the Kentucky Horse Park in Lexington, Kentucky, March 22–24, 2019.

In addition to celebrating our Road to the Horse World Champions at Road to the Horse 2019, fans can look forward to a thrilling tribute to our nation’s Wild West culture. Collectively, the characters of the Wild West had one thing in common—their undeniable passion and partnership with the horse.

  • Untapped Talent Takes Center Stage at Road to the Horse 2019

Some of the world’s most talented equestrians have never taken center stage.  They don’t have marketing teams or television shows. They just work hard every day, without fanfare, at becoming better horsemen. You may not know who they are…yet… but their talent is undeniable and their time to shine is coming.

At Road to the Horse 2019, three gifted horsemen will showcase their skills in the Wild Card competition.  They will each start an untouched 6666 Ranch colt, during three days of competition, in true Road to the Horse style. The winner is guaranteed a much-sought-after competitor position at Road to the Horse 2020.

The Wild Card competitors will take center stage each morning, prior to the start of the main Road to the Horse 2019 competition. Fans will be able to watch every minute of colt-starting action from these talented first-time competitors, as they each bring their own unique style of horsemanship to Road to the Horse.

“We are excited to provide an opportunity for some unheralded horsemen to showcase their talents” states Western Horseman Publisher Ernie King. “There are great horsemen out there working hard every day to perfect their craft that most folks have never heard much about. Hopefully, the Wild Card competition will bring them some much deserved recognition.”
