AQHA President Dr. Glenn Blodgett will lead the All American Futurity post parade on a Road to the Horse World Champion.
The All American Futurity, held each Labor Day at Ruidoso Downs in Ruidoso, New Mexico, is one of American Quarter Horse racing’s most prestigious events.
Tens of thousands will gather to watch the event, which offers a $3 million purse, the richest race for 2-year-old horses, regardless of breed, in the world. The winner will earn $1.5 million.
Presiding over the event is AQHA President Dr. Glenn Blodgett of Guthrie, Texas, who will lead the All American Futurity post parade aboard the horse Perfect Performance.
Perfect Performance is a 7-year-old gray gelding bred and raised by Dr. Blodgett’s employer, Burnett Ranches LLC. Perfect Performance partnered with horseman Chris Cox to win the Road to the Horse 2011. They earned $10,000 for the victory and the horse has remained in training with Chris.
The Road to the Horse is an annual event that pits top trainers against each other in a training competition. The trainers are given unstarted young horses and gentle them in front of a crowd. The Road to the Horse 2016 is scheduled for March 18-20 at the Kentucky Horse Park in Lexington, Kentucky.
Dr. Blodgett is a longtime employee of Burnett Ranches and its Four Sixes Ranch, serving as resident veterinarian and manager of the horse division. He is the president of AQHA, the largest equine breed organization in the world. Burnett Ranches is also the co-breeder of All American Futurity finalist Sky Bo Dash.
Perfect Performance is a gelding by Sixes Pick and out of the Special Effort mare Best Performance. Both sire and dam are homebreds off the ranch, with Sixes Pick being an accomplished cow horse and Versatility Ranch Horse world champion. Perfect Performance’s dam is a daughter of AQHA Hall of Fame member Special Effort, and traces to the Four Sixes’ good producer Natural as her fourth dam.
Road to the Horse Owner/Producer Tootie Bland will be present at Ruidoso Downs to witness the Road to the Horse graduate lead the fastest horses in the world down the track.
Perfect Performance is cataloged to be sold at the Return to the Remuda Sale on October 10 at the Four Sixes Ranch.

With five year veteran Horseman’s Host Richard Winters trading his microphone for a lariat, Road to the Horse was hunting for a substitute. It’s not easy to find a knowledgeable horseman, who’s a fan favorite, to guide a sold out Alltech Arena through the unforgettable journey of Road to the Horse but Road to the Horse Owner/Producer Tootie Bland turned to the history books to produce something special. Like Richard Winters, Craig Cameron is a past Road to the Horse World Champion and is adorned by many. A cowboy, a horseman, a clinician and now a Horseman’s Host, Craig Cameron couldn’t be more excited to put down his lariat and pick up the microphone.
“If there’s a veteran of Road to the Horse, it’s Craig Cameron” states Road to the Horse Owner and Producer Tootie Bland. “Craig’s role as a competitor at Road to the Horse has spanned over eight years. Craig’s megawatt smile, captivating personality, unbiased opinion and expert colt-starting knowledge made him a perfect fit to join Host Matt West, as our new Horseman’s Host in 2016.”
A Native Texan, Craig Cameron is on the road more than 44 weeks a year, covering 80,000 miles demonstrating the style of horsemanship he has perfected in the last 23 years. Craig dedicates himself to those who educate their horses by first educating themselves. At an age where most have long since retired the thought of starting colts, Craig Cameron, known as “The Cowboy’s Clinician,” starts hundreds of horses each year; plus hosts multiple four-day clinics held at his ranches in Bluff Dale, TX, and in Lincoln, NM, which are blended with education and entertainment. Craig’s hard work has not gone unnoticed. In 2002, he was awarded the prestigious Working Cowboy of the Year award by the American Cowboy Culture Awards Committee. Craig is also featured weekly in Hoof Beats on cable TV and is a regular on RFD-TV. Cameron’s cowboy humor, often compared to Will Rogers, and his common sense approach are opening the eyes of horses and horse enthusiasts world-wide.
Road to the Horse 2016 is already an epic battle in the making. In an electrifying mix between past World Champions and new blood, this is a World Championship of Colt Starting title that will come down to the wire as veteran Horseman’s Host Richard Winters challenges 2x Road to the Horse World Champion and well known Australian Horseman, Clinton Anderson. Add Road to the Horse newcomer and NRCHA Open Futurity Champion, Nick Dowers to the mix and the race for the World Championship of Colt Starting Gist buckle is wide open.
Road to the Horse 2016 will return to the Kentucky Horse Park in Lexington, KY on March 18 – 20, 2016. Road to the Horse 2016 tickets are available online at www.RoadtotheHorse.com or by calling 877-772-5425.
